So that's it for Saving Private Ryan. As far as I am concerned it has problems. It does some things very well. I stand by the fact that it's groundbreaking and name-making. It packs a lot of "wow" into it's early scenes.
War films are a fascinating genre, one where I see a lot of what film can do come on display on the surface. It's easy to turn up so much that is unexpected with a movie like Saving Private Ryan, love it or hate it.
I will return with more work on another dissenting opinion next week. A problem so thick, it will easily take me into the next year of this blog.
